HelloSA TV Segment

It was a day filled with excitement when HelloSA dropped by our rehearsal in the leadup to 'A Symphony' at Festival Theatre. Our ensemble of dancers was preparing for an upcoming performance, sharing the stage with Tim Campbell’s orchestra. The air buzzed with energy, not just from the rehearsals themselves but from the presence of the TV crew capturing every moment.

The host, Lauren, brought her signature warmth and enthusiasm to the set, making everyone feel at ease as she navigated between cameras and conversations. From the first beat of the music to the final note, it was clear this would be a rehearsal unlike any other.

Our talented Music Director, Kym Purling, led the orchestra through a beautiful medley of pieces, seamlessly blending the power of live music with the fluidity of our dancers’ movements. As the camera panned across the stage, it felt like the perfect meeting of two art forms—dance and live symphonic music—coming together in harmony.

Lauren interviewed Kym, who shared his vision for the collaboration between music and movement, emphasizing the importance of timing, mood, and expression. Our Executive Producer, Melissa Dunbar, gave a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the hard work that goes into organizing such a large-scale performance. Rebecca Norsworthy, our Head Choreographer, spoke passionately about the choreography’s inspiration, explaining how she crafted routines to enhance the music and highlight the athleticism of our dancers.

The real stars of the day, though, were our ensemble. Dancers Molly, Mia, and Celina had a chance to step into the spotlight during their interviews. They shared personal stories about what it meant to be a part of this incredible journey, reflecting on their love for calisthenics and the thrill of performing with a live orchestra.

As the rehearsals continued, the room was filled with music, movement, and moments of joy. The sound of Tim Campbell’s orchestra swelled, complementing every graceful leap, turn, and expression from our dancers. Each rehearsal run felt more powerful than the last, with the combination of live music and dance bringing a palpable energy to the space.
